A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party announced a list of 189 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka elections, the ruling party began seeing protests and rebellions.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi said on 12 April 2023 that he is quitting the party.

Savadi is a 3-time MLA from the Athani seat but lost in 2018 to Mahesh Kumathalli, who was then in Congress but later switched to the BJP.

BJP has given a ticket to Kumathalli again.
