Just days before India hosts the G20 summit, an invitation sent out on behalf of President Droupadi Murmu has sparked widespread speculation and even a political war of words.
The invitation reportedly refers to Murmu as 'President of Bharat', which is a departure from the traditional designation 'President of India'.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 5 did not directly refer to the invitation, but tweeted, "Republic of Bharat - happy and proud that our civilisation is marching ahead boldly towards Amrit Kaal."
Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "Now, Article 1 in the Constitution can read - Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States." He added that even this "Union of States" is under assault now.
