Congress workers staged a protest outside the Surat sessions court ahead of Rahul Gandhi's appearance at the courthouse on 3 April 2023. The protestors carried placards saying "Save Democracy".
Gandhi is expected to challenge his conviction and jail term in a defamation case which led to his disqualification from Parliament.
The Congress leader was earlier seen leaving his Delhi residence to travel to Surat appeal against the verdict. News agency ANI captured him taking an IndiGo airlines shuttle to board a flight.
