Congress has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Rabindranath Tagore's name was seen missing from the new plaques installed at the university established by the poet.

The plaques however, carried the PM's name identifying him as 'Acharya' and Vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty.

Taking to X, Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh alleged that after attempting the erasure of Nehru the PM is now attempting the erasure of Rabindranath Tagore.

Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal also reacted sharply and said, "Rabindranath Tagore famously said - "Freedom from fear is the freedom I claim for you, my Motherland" Today, the chief peddler of fear, hate and division has now named himself "Acharya" at the great Shantiniketan, omitting Tagore altogether! Delusion knows no limits."

According to the Hindustan Times, the officials of the university have asserted that the plaques are temporary and will be replaced by the end of the month.
