Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has announced that it may contest the upcoming  Karnataka election, according to a NDTV report. The decision comes a day after Pawar met with Congress leaders as a party of mission Opposition Unity announced by the grand old party to fight the Narendra Modi-led govt in the next Lok Sabha elections.

As per the report, NCP is planning to contest 40-45 seats. The seats are in regions where the BJP, Congress and Janata Dal United (JDU) are locked in a triangular contest.

NCP's move is being seen as a bid to regain its national party status, revoked by the Election Commission earlier this week.
