New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) A wanted criminal faced an exchange of gunfire with police in northwest Delhi's Keshav Puram, resulting in injuries, officials reported on Wednesday.

The suspect, Raju (33), also known as Ajay and Kangaroo, was embroiled in 12 prior criminal activities, according to police sources.

Following a tip-off, a police unit from Keshav Puram tracked down the suspects at a local hotel, where they were found in a secluded area on Tuesday night.

"Upon police approach, one suspect fired at Head Constable Mohit, nearly hitting him," a senior officer recounted. In self-defense, the officer retaliated, striking the attacker in the right leg below the knee.

Raju was transported to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital for medical attention via a PCR van, police noted.

The second suspect, identified as Ravi alias Gotia (30), was apprehended immediately and was previously involved in seven cases. Authorities also recovered a stolen mobile phone from his possession.

Police confirmed that crime scene investigation teams, along with Forensic Science Laboratory experts, were summoned to examine the encounter site.
