A rare honour was conferred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his participation at the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation.

Fiji's highest honour - the Companion of the Order of Fiji - was bestowed on PM Modi by his counterpart Sitiveni Rabuka.

The award, which has been conferred on very few non-Fijians so far, recognises Modi's global leadership, Indian officials said. PM Modi dedicated the honour to Indians and to the generations of the Fiji-Indian community.

Regarding bilateral ties with Rabuka, PM Modi said, "We had a great conversation on various topics. The relations between India and Fiji have stood the test of time. We look forward to working together to further cement it in the coming years."
