Part of population left J&K in 1989-90, it was not voluntary migration: Justice Kaul

Announcing the verdict on Article 370, Supreme Court Justice SK Kaul recommended setting up a 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission'. He stressed on the need to understand the human rights violation.

Justice Kaul said that the valley of Kashmir carries a historical burden and that the people are victims of conflicts.

He noted that a part of the population migrated from J&K in 1989-90. "It was not a voluntary migration," said Justice Kaul.

He noted that parts of Kashmir are occupied by foreign nations.

The Supreme Court upheld the abrogation of Article 370 and ordered Election Commission to hold assembly elections by September 30, 2024.
