As Papua New Guinea welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the island nation's prime minister embraced the Indian tradition of touching the feet of the elders.

James Marape first welcomed Prime Minister with a hug and then touched his feet.

Traditionally, Papua New Guinea does not accord a ceremonial welcome to any head of state after sunset, NDTV reported, but an exception was made for Modi, the first Indian prime minister to visit the Pacific nation.
