New Delhi, July 2 (PTI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to inaugurate a national conference for chairpersons of urban local bodies (ULBs) in Gurugram, Haryana, this Thursday.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh, and Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan will participate alongside other dignitaries in the two-day event. The conference revolves around the theme, ‘Role of Urban Local Bodies in Strengthening Constitutional Democracy and Nation Building’.

The National Level Conference of Chairpersons of Urban Local Bodies brings together delegates from various parts of India to discuss vital topics. These include creating model practices and procedural codes of conduct for General Council Meetings of ULBs, and making municipal governance more efficient in meeting the constitutional mandates.

The conference will also focus on ULBs' contributions to achieving the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. Discussions will center on their role in promoting women leaders in society and politics, and enhancing public service delivery to improve citizens' quality of life.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya will deliver the address at the valedictory session scheduled for Friday.

The conference aims to outline the impactful role of urban local bodies in a rapidly urbanizing nation.
