Bhubaneswar, Jul 10 (PTI) - The Odisha government has established a task force to manage the seamless movement of fuel tankers and goods transport vehicles as the state anticipates a potential fuel shortage due to a driver strike entering its third day. This move came after a high-level meeting overseen by Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Wednesday night. The Utkal Petroleum Dealers' Association president, Sanjay Lath, expressed concerns that most fuel stations might deplete their stock by the evening if the supply chain isn't restored. The task force includes members from the Commerce and Transport Department, police, district administrations, and oil marketing companies. Their responsibilities include continuous monitoring, swift resolution of logistical challenges, and facilitating the smooth movement of petroleum products and other essential goods, according to officials. Police have been directed to provide full support, including security escorts for fuel tankers and trucks as needed. Jena reassured that there’s currently no fuel shortage in the state. "Oil marketing companies have confirmed that adequate stocks are available at both depots and retail outlets across the state. Daily replenishment activities are proceeding without disruption, ensuring a smooth supply of petroleum products at all major points," he stated. Despite two rounds of meetings between government representatives and the striking drivers, who are demanding various welfare schemes, the strike by drivers of buses and other vehicles persists. In anticipation of possible fuel shortages, people formed long queues at petrol stations since morning.
