Berhampur (Odisha), Jun 25 (PTI): A 47-year-old man who owned a private clinic in Odisha's Berhampur city has been arrested for allegedly raping a nursing aspirant in an apartment, police revealed.
The arrest took place on Tuesday, carried out by the Baidyanathpur police station. Alongside the clinic owner, two women, aged 21 and 50, were also arrested for allegedly assisting in the crime against the 17-year-old girl on Monday, a police officer stated. Notably, the accused also holds the position of district president of a labor organization.
It was reported that the girl had been working at the clinic of the accused, and her father had been assured that the clinic owner would facilitate her BSC Nursing studies and provide her free accommodation during the course, the officer detailed.
On Monday, the minor was taken to an apartment room by the accused, where his women assistants allegedly offered her some water. After consuming it, she felt dizzy. It was then that the accused allegedly took her to a bedroom and raped her, the police officer explained.
The survivor later went to her aunt's house, where she recounted the events, prompting the lodging of an FIR.
A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act against the accused, confirmed Superintendent of Police (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M.
Initial investigations suggest that the accused was a fake doctor, operating the clinic with a fraudulent homeopathy degree, stated the SP, adding that the investigation continues.
This incident follows closely in the wake of another alleged gang rape of a college student on June 15 in Gopalpur, located in the same district.
Additionally, on June 5, in the Golanthara Police Station area, two minor girls were reported to have been raped.
