No 6-month waiting period for divorce if...: Supreme Court's big order

The Supreme Court on May 1, 2023, made a significant declaration regarding divorce proceedings.

The top court said that it can dissolve a marriage on the ground of irretrievable breakdown, without the couple going through the 6-month waiting period as prescribed by marital laws.

A 5-judge bench said that it can dissolve an irretrievably broken marriage by invoking special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution.
