Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while replying to the discussion on the 'White Paper on the Indian Economy' tabled by her in the Lok Sabha addressed questions raised by the Congress about the timing of the document.

She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in an interview in 2015-2016 spoken about receiving suggestions to bring a White Paper on the economic condition of the country.  He had added that he was not doing so in 'national interests'

Sitharaman said that the prime minister believed that it would discourage investors.
