Hazaribag, July 3 (PTI) — In a significant breakthrough, police in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district have arrested nine members of what has been described as a "criminal gang."

According to the police, the apprehensions took place during an ‘anti-crime checking drive’ conducted on the stretch between Carmel School More and the Hazaribag bus stand on Wednesday, where seven individuals were caught. Two additional members were arrested later in the Karamtoli area of Ranchi.

Hazaribag Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan informed reporters that the arrests followed a tip-off regarding a suspicious plan by armed gang members in the St Columbus College Road area. A special investigation team was promptly formed and successfully apprehended the suspects.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 24, have reportedly confessed to their involvement in an incident of gunfire at a jewellery shop in Hazaribag on June 22. Investigations are currently ongoing.
