Guwahati, July 30 (PTI): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has initiated a survey for establishing an integrated garbage treatment system, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

The survey is being conducted by IIT-Guwahati and will initially target two railway establishments in Guwahati, the statement noted. IIT-Guwahati will offer technical consultancy and carry out comprehensive field studies to evaluate the feasibility, design, and execution strategy for the proposed system.

This endeavor is anticipated to set a precedent in smart and sustainable waste management practices across railway facilities. Following the completion of the field survey, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared, highlighting essential infrastructure, estimated costs, treatment methodologies, and implementation timelines. This report will be submitted to NFR for further consideration.

The proposed integrated garbage treatment system aims to focus on source segregation, scientific disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, alongside composting and recycling measures. These efforts will align with Swachh Bharat Mission guidelines and national waste management protocols.
