Kolkata, Jul 7 (PTI) An association of bank employees announced on Monday that the banking sector will participate in a nationwide strike on July 9. This strike, initiated by central trade unions, is in protest against the economic policies of the Central government.
The Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Association, which is affiliated with the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), stated that banking sector trade unions, including AIBEA, AIBOA, and BEFI, have resolved to join the general strike on Wednesday. The insurance sector has also committed to participating in the strike, as noted in a statement released by the association.
The strike is anticipated to be comprehensive across the banking and other financial sectors. It is expected to see participation from more than 15 crore workers from various industries nationwide, as a stance against what the bank employees' union describes as "pro-corporate economic reforms and anti-labour policies of the central government."
