In Nagpur, an explosion at an explosives factory resulted in one fatality and eight injuries, with the incident occurring shortly after midnight on Thursday in Maharashtra's Nagpur district. The explosion led to the collapse of the factory building, according to officials.
The blast took place at approximately 12.30 am in the Solar Group's facility located in Bazargaon. The entire building was demolished due to the explosion, officials reported.
A 25-year-old individual was killed, and eight others sustained injuries. As per police reports, the injured have been admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Ashish Kumar Srivastava, the company's Senior General Manager, informed PTI Videos that the explosion occurred at 12.33 am in the crystallisation building, where energetic materials are processed. He mentioned that the precise cause of the explosion will be determined following an investigation. Prior to the explosion, there were signs of an impending blast, prompting those present to evacuate the plant.
After the explosion, the factory's automatic cooling system activated, and emergency procedures including evacuation and building clearance were efficiently executed. Srivastava noted that safety protocols were promptly implemented throughout the facility.
"Our senior officers and directors arrived at the scene promptly, and all teams, including the police, responded swiftly," he stated. The building's collapse was attributed to the explosive force of the blast.
The company has committed to covering the medical expenses of the injured and providing appropriate compensation to the family of the deceased. NCP (SP) leader and former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, a native of Nagpur, visited the injured in the hospital.
