Hyderabad, Jul 1 (PTI) Former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and senior advocate N Ramchander Rao has been elected as the president of the Telangana BJP, taking over from Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who served as the returning officer for this election, officially handed the appointment letter to Rao. "I declare that Ramchander Rao has been unanimously elected as the president of Telangana BJP," Karandlaje announced during the event.
Prominent BJP leaders, including Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, congratulated Rao on his new role. Rao’s appointment is viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the party's ideological and organizational foundation in Telangana. He was the sole candidate to file his nomination for the president's post of the state unit, and his election was announced today.
In his address at the event, Kishan Reddy expressed that the original aspirations for the formation of Telangana remain unfulfilled even after 11 years. He criticized that Telangana, which was initially formed with a surplus budget, is now burdened with debt. Reddy accused both the Congress and the BRS, as well as the families of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Rahul Gandhi, of exploiting Telangana.
He called upon party leaders and workers to unite for ensuring BJP's emergence in power in the state, emphasizing that the goal of gaining power is not for the party's leaders but to serve the nation and fulfill the dreams of those who sacrificed their lives for Telangana's statehood.
Ramchander Rao highlighted the BJP's significant growth in Telangana, mentioning that the party now has eight Lok Sabha members, eight MLAs, a Rajya Sabha member, and three MLCs. The party's growth, according to him, is attributed to the dedication and sacrifices of its leaders and workers, some of whom were targeted by Naxalites in the past.
Reflecting on his early days, Rao recounted how he and other party activists used public transport for party activities, expressing his pride in being elected as the state unit president. He emphasized the importance of "collective leadership," despite his election as the state head.
Discussing the upcoming local body elections, Rao urged party members to work diligently to secure victories. He mentioned that the BJP would democratically challenge the Congress government and is committed to elevating the party's stature in the state.
