Hours after a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a common personal law for all the communities in an address to BJP workers in Bhopal, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had a meeting on June 27, 2023 night.

Prime Minister Modi said that two laws can not work in the same country and the constitution gives equal rights for all the citizens. He further accused the opposition of provoking the Muslim community on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code. The prime minister said the opposition only talks about Muslims. "Had they cared about them, the Muslims would not be lagging in education and job," he said.

However, AIMPLB member Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli in an interview with Press Trust of India said that the meeting should not be linked to Prime Minister’s comment on Uniform Civil Code. He added that the board will oppose Uniform Civil Code strongly.

He added that the UCC would affect not only the Muslims but all the communities.
