Mumbai, May 27 (PTI): After enduring heavy rains earlier this week, Mumbai received some relief on Tuesday morning, with the island city recording an average of 106 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, according to civic officials. Public transport, including suburban trains, operated with minor delays, while the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses and metro services remained functional.
As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Nariman Point experienced the highest rainfall, registering 252 mm from 10 pm on May 25 to 11 am on May 26. The BMC headquarters recorded 216 mm, and the Colaba pumping station noted 207 mm.
In the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Tuesday, the island city averaged 106 mm of rainfall, with the western suburbs receiving 72 mm and the eastern suburbs 63 mm, the BMC reported. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainfall for Mumbai and its suburbs in the next 24 hours. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected.

The newly opened Acharya Atre Chowk metro station at Worli Naka had to be closed after rainwater flooded the premises, prompting the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation to cease operations there. Several previously unflooded low-lying areas in south Mumbai, such as the upmarket Peddar Road and Nepean Sea Road, were inundated.
The BMC has advised that a high tide of 4.88 meters is expected at 12:13 pm on Tuesday, followed by another tide of 4.18 meters at 11:56 pm.
