Aizawl: The Mizoram government has now embraced the e-office system to bolster digital governance and optimize official procedures, as announced by a minister on Wednesday. In a press briefing, the state’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) minister, Dr. Vanlalthlana, shared that the e-offices were initiated at the state secretariat on April 18. Initially launched as a pilot project in four departments, including the school education department and Public Works Department (PWD), the system has now expanded across all 41 departments in the secretariat, as well as the Chief Minister's Office. Following its rollout at the secretariat, the implementation will extend to directorates and district offices. Initiatives for the e-office system have been in motion since January 2024. The Centre’s Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances allocated Rs 1.99 crore under the State Collaborative Initiative scheme for this digital transition. So far, approximately 6,492 files have been created using the e-office system, streamlining governance by enabling swifter file movement and eliminating incidents of lost documents. The minister highlighted that the system has proven efficient for the chief minister, ministers, chief secretary, secretaries, and senior officials, who can now conduct their duties remotely using a virtual private network. This shift to digital operations is expected to significantly cut down governmental expenses by phasing out paper-based processes. Additionally, Vanlalthlana mentioned ongoing efforts by the ICT Department to upgrade and manage over 300 government websites. Currently, the migration of websites from the Ctrl-S Data Centre to the more secure Google Virtual Private Server (VPS) has caused accessibility issues with several sites; however, 23 departmental websites have been successfully re-activated thus far.
