Prayagraj, June 30 (PTI): A suspected radicalisation network has come to light with the rescue of a minor Dalit girl from Uttar Pradesh. Allegedly lured from her village and taken to Kerala, she was reportedly coerced into converting her religion and being recruited for terrorist activities, according to the police. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

The 15-year-old, originally from the Phoolpur area in Prayagraj district, was taken on May 8 but managed to escape from Kerala. She contacted her mother for help, leading to the arrest of two accused individuals. One of them is identified as Darkhsha Bano, a 19-year-old woman, and the other is a man named Mohammed Kaif.

According to DCP (Ganga Nagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, the girl was being forced to join jihadi activities. After her escape, she reached the Thrissur railway station and contacted her mother with the assistance of local police.

Upon her return to Prayagraj, she was placed in a One Stop Centre for protection. A formal case has been registered against Darkhsha Bano, Mohammed Kaif, and an unidentified person who allegedly issued threats to the victim’s family over the phone.

During initial questioning, the rescued girl revealed that other minor girls have also been targeted by the same group. The girl’s mother filed a formal complaint on June 26 at the Phoolpur police station, alleging that her daughter was lured and taken away. The family also received threats from an unidentified number.

The girl disclosed that she was enticed with money, pressured to convert her religion, and coerced into participating in extremist activities. She recounted how Kaif took her to the Prayagraj Junction railway station on his motorcycle and allegedly harassed her. Darkhsha Bano then escorted her by train to Delhi and subsequently to Kerala, where she was introduced to other individuals involved in the radicalisation network.

DCP Gunawat stated that the accused were operating as part of an organized syndicate targeting girls and pushing them into anti-national and terrorist activities.

Three dedicated police teams have been formed to further investigate the network and uncover additional leads related to this case.
