Shillong, Jun 17 (PTI) — The Meghalaya Police are set to take the accused in the murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, including his wife Sonam, to Sohra on Tuesday to recreate the crime scene, officials confirmed.
Raja Raghuvanshi met a tragic end on May 23 while on his honeymoon in the northeastern state. His wife, Sonam; her alleged boyfriend, Raj; and three hired assailants have been taken into custody in connection with the crime.
"We are taking all the accused to Sohra to recreate the crime scene," said Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, as reported by PTI.
The reenactment will occur at an isolated parking lot and at the top of a gorge in Sohra around noon, according to Syiem.
Raja's decomposed body was discovered in the gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2. The search continued for Sonam, who eventually surrendered in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, a journey of approximately 1,200 km, in the early hours of June 9. Meanwhile, her alleged accomplices, Raj and the three hitmen, were arrested by the police.
The accused are currently in the custody of Meghalaya Police, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively investigating the case.
Director General of Police I Nongrang mentioned on Monday that the SIT is exploring the case from multiple perspectives.
"We are investigating whether there is anything more to this case. It is unusual for someone to develop such animosity towards a spouse just days after marriage," Nongrang commented to PTI.
"We are exploring all possible angles. There is enough evidence, and the loose ends are being tied up," she continued.
The SIT has also enlisted the help of the Assam Police and authorities from other states where the accused had traveled before and following the crime, an official stated.
