Imphal, Aug 27 (PTI): A 49-year-old woman was taken into custody by security forces after they discovered drugs valued at Rs 10 lakh in her home located in Churachandpur district of Manipur, police announced on Wednesday.
She was arrested at her residence in the S Munnuam area on Monday, a senior police officer reported.
"We seized 1200 WY tablets, commonly known as Yaba tablets, which are estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakhs," the officer stated.
Containing a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, Yaba tablets are banned in India due to their psychotropic effects, often referred to as the ‘crazy drug’.
In another operation, an active member of the banned Prepak (PRO) was arrested at Napet Palli in the Imphal East district on the same day, police confirmed.
Since ethnic violence began two years ago, security forces have intensified their search operations across Manipur.
More than 260 lives have been lost, and thousands have become homeless due to ongoing ethnic conflicts between the Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
Following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the Centre imposed President’s rule in Manipur.
The state assembly, whose term extends until 2027, has been placed under suspended animation.
