A 63-year-old man was thrashed, his car vandalised by a group of Kanwariyas after his car accidentally hit one of the Kanwar in Uttarakhand's Haridwar.
Speaking to the Indian Express, the man, identified as Pratap Singh claimed Kanwariyas took him for a Muslim as he sported a long beard, had a black cap on and had a burqa-clad woman sitting in the passenger seat.
He further told the publication that he is a member of the BJP and RSS.
The video of the incident, which took place on July 10, was widely shared with claims that the Kanwariyas assaulted a Muslim man.
The purported video showed Kanwariyas pulling the car owner, out of the vehicle before toppling the vehicle.
