A passenger onboard an Agartala-bound Indigo flight tried to open the emergency door of the aircraft, causing panic among the crew and other passengers. Police later said the arrested 41-year-old man suffered from depression and was trying to jump off the plane.

While the investigation continues, police said the Tripura resident endangered the lives of hundreds of passengers onboard the flight.

Agartala police officer Abhijit Mandal said that the man was identified as Biswajit Debnath, and will be produced before a court on Friday, news agency PTI reported.

The man tried to open the emergency door around 1 PM on Thursday when the plane was flying 15 miles from the runway of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, an official had said.
