New Delhi, June 26 (PTI) – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday that approximately 1,100 individuals involved in drug-related offenses have been arrested over the past four to five months.
Speaking at an event to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Gupta lauded the efforts of law enforcement agencies. However, she emphasized the equal importance of public engagement in combating this pervasive issue.
Gupta called for active public participation in the fight against drug abuse, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
"Parents frequently approach us in despair, sharing how their children have succumbed to drug addiction. They reveal the fracturing of their families and express a deep sense of helplessness. In these instances, it is crucial for us to offer support," the chief minister remarked, highlighting the emotional and societal impact of substance abuse.
She also encouraged the public to report any drug-related activities by calling the helpline number 1933.
"This campaign requires collective effort. I firmly believe that if we unite, we can eradicate drug consumption and trafficking from our society," she stated.
