Bhopal, Jun 20 (PTI) The Public Works Department (PWD) of Madhya Pradesh has initiated steps to address concerns regarding a newly built railway overbridge near the Aishbagh stadium, which includes an unusual 90-degree turn.

The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore, has not been inaugurated yet but has already sparked criticism due to its challenging design for vehicle navigation.

PWD Minister Rakesh Singh stated on Thursday that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had investigated the issue and found that the peculiar design resulted from land constraints.

Speaking to PTI, Singh mentioned, “We have constituted a committee comprising two chief engineers to explore solutions for safe usage of the bridge. This committee will engage with all stakeholders, including the railways, and propose corrective measures.”

Singh added that the committee’s recommendations would guide efforts to make the bridge's turn smoother and reduce accident risks.

Sources indicate that the PWD is seeking additional land from the railways to address the design flaw.

Nevertheless, railways' spokesperson Naval Agarwal clarified to PTI that no formal communication had been received from the PWD regarding the bridge to date.

“We will consider any formal proposal when it arrives,” he said.

According to PWD officials, acquiring a small additional tract of land could transform the sharp 90-degree turn into a more navigable curve.
