Itanagar, Jul 3 (PTI) - In a continued effort to bolster military readiness in Arunachal Pradesh, Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, the General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army's Spear Corps, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the area's operational preparedness, reported a defence spokesperson on Thursday. On Wednesday, Lt Gen Pendharkar focused on reviewing the deployment of combat enablers and niche equipment in the high-altitude border areas. Emphasis was placed on advanced technologies, particularly drone systems used for reconnaissance, said Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, the defence spokesperson.

Lt Gen Pendharkar praised the troops for their professionalism, high morale, and steadfast dedication in navigating the challenging terrain and climate of the region. The visit signifies the Army's ongoing initiatives to enhance infrastructure and improve surveillance along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, a strategically critical boundary.

The inspection also assessed the integration and effectiveness of specialised systems that aim to boost operational capabilities in remote, rugged locations. Leading the Spear Corps since August 2024, Lt Gen Pendharkar, with over 30 years of experience, particularly in counter-insurgency operations, has prioritized technological advancements and the modernisation of forces.

During his visit, the GOC paid homage to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at a local war memorial, underscoring the Army's commitment to honoring its martyrs.

The Spear Corps is crucial in safeguarding India's northeastern frontier. Amid evolving military and geopolitical challenges, including ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur, the Corps is adapting by balancing traditional defence frameworks with emerging security needs.
