Watch: Indian Army rescues 1,000 tourists stranded after heavy snowfall in Sikkim

In a major rescue operation, the Indian Army brought over 1,000 tourists to safety after they were stranded in East Sikkim due to heavy snowfall.

Severe snowfall in Chhangu on 15 March 2023 had impacted the movement of travellers. As snow accumulated, over 1,000 tourists along with 200 vehicles were stranded over a stretch of 15 km.

They were rescued in an 8-hour operation on 16 March, and provided with accommodation, hot meals, warm clothing and critical medical support.
