At least 54 people have died and around 400 hospitalised in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia District Hospital in the last three days because of severe heat, NDTV reported.

According to local doctors, hospitalisations are rising because of a severe heatwave that has swept the state of Uttar Pradesh with temperatures soaring to 40 degrees.

Meanwhile, signalling no relief from scorching heat in half of India, IMD has predicted severe to very severe heatwave conditions in Odisha, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu
