Lucknow building collapse: Samajwadi Party leader's son detained by police amid rescue ops, say reports

Over 12 hours after a building collapsed in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, rescue operations continued at the site on the morning of 25 January 2023.

At least 14 persons had been extricated from the rubble, with 3 more believed to be trapped, at around 9 am. Rescuers pumped oxygen to the places were thought to be people were trapped.

Meanwhile, UP police detained the son of a former minister and Samajwadi Party leader in connection with the building collapse. Manzoor Ahmed's son Nawazish is under scanner since the land agreement of the plot on which the building was constructed is in his name, as per a Times of India report.

A four-storey residential building collapsed in Lucknow's Hazratganj on 24 January. The structure was illegal and its map was "not passed", Lucknow divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob as quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
