Cyclone Biparjoy has rapidly intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, the Indian Meteorological Department said on June 7, 2023.

The cyclone is centred over the Arabian Sea around 1,000 km southwest of Mumbai. It is likely to move northwards and intensify into a very severe cyclone.

The Met Department has not predicted any major impact on India's west coast, Pakistan, Iran, and Oman.

However, it is likely to cause a "mild" monsoon onset over Kerala and "weak" progress beyond India's southern peninsula.
