Cheetah deaths: MP govt removes chief wildlife warden amid radio collar controversy

After deaths of 8 Cheetahs in 5 months at the Kuno National Park, the Madhya Pradesh government has reportedly taken action against the state's chief wildlife warden.

JS Chauhan, a 1987 IFS officer, was removed from the post on July 17, according to an Indian Express report. Chauhan is considered the architect of the Kuno National Park which became the base for translocation and reintroduction of cheetahs in India.

A day before his removal, Chauhan had said that radio collars put on the cheetahs might be causing infections, and might be a contributory factor towards their death.

The Narendra Modi government has said that claims of cheetah deaths due to radio collars were not based on scientific evidence.
