With sporadic instances of violence continuing to be reported in West Bengal, state Governor CV Ananda Bose cut short his trip to Darjeeling. He visited violence-affected Rishra and Serampur in Hooghly district on 4 April 2023.

Addressing reports, Bose said, "We will never allow forces of darkness to take society to ransom."

"People have a right to peacefully living, that right will be established at any cost," he added.

Bose had gone to the hill town of Darjeeling in the northern part of the state for a G20 meeting.
