A violent clash reportedly took place in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on 16 March 2023.

A group of priests and sadhus allegedly fought with traders following a dispute over construction of shops along the Ram Path. A trader told police that 15 Naga Sadhus and 5 priests of the Hanumangarhi temple ransacked and looted his shop.

One of the priests named in the complaint claimed that traders were "illegally and forcefully" building shops, violating the terms of negotiation they had had earlier. "There was an attempt to end the dispute in an mediation done by ayodhya MLA Ved Prakash Gupta. Even after this, the traders were forcefully getting shops constructed by not following the conditions of the negotiations," he said

With the registration of the case, police personnel have been deployed to prevent the dispute from further escalating, SHO Ayodhya Kotwali police station Manoj Kumar Sharma said.
