More than a year after an allegedly botched military operation in Nagaland led to the deaths of 14 young men, the Narendra Modi government has reportedly denied permission to prosecute 30 Army personnel.

Nagaland police said on 13 April 2023 that the denial of sanction had been conveyed to the court.

The incident occurred in December 2021 when 6 coal miners were allegedly killed by Army soldiers in a case of "mistaken identity".

Angry villagers had then clashed with Army soldiers, leading to deaths of 7 civilians, and 1 security personnel, as per reports.
