India's premier terror probe agency launched widespread raids on 21 February 2023, in a crackdown on gangster syndicates, and their nexus with terrorist outfits.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) reportedly conducted searches at 70 locations across 8 states and Union Territories. Raids took place in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

The searches were launched based on information collected after questioning of many alleged members of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Neeraj Bawana gangs, as per an India Today report.
