Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, September 10 (PTI): A local court has delivered life sentences to the parents and grandfather of a 19-year-old woman for the murder of her and her lover earlier this year.
In a hearing on Tuesday, Additional District and Sessions Judge, First, Farah Matlub, found Mahesh, his wife Bhagwati, and father Ram Avtar, guilty of murdering Mahesh's daughter Neetu and her 20-year-old lover, Jaipal. The court has sentenced all three to life imprisonment.
In addition to the life sentences, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each convict.
The tragic incident took place on January 2 in Parauli village, where, in a fit of rage over Neetu's relationship with Jaipal, Mahesh, along with his wife and father, killed the young couple with a spade, according to additional district government counsel Sanjiv Gupta.
Following the incident, Jaipal's father, Surajpal, filed an FIR, highlighting that despite multiple attempts by both families to prevent the couple from meeting, their persistence led to Mahesh's anger and ultimately the heinous act.
The police swiftly took action, registering a case against the three accused and filing the chargesheet within 16 days.
Gupta mentioned that after hearing arguments from both sides, the court decided to convict the trio and ordered that the fine collected should be given as compensation to Jaipal's parents.
