Chandigarh, Aug 14 (PTI) - In a significant operation, Punjab Police have successfully apprehended two key members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, known for their involvement in numerous criminal activities. The arrest took place on the Patiala-Ambala highway near Shambhu village, as reported by the police on Thursday.
An operation by the Anti Gangster Task Force (#AGTF) Punjab led to their capture. They seized a 9 mm Glock pistol along with six live cartridges from these individuals. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced this development on social media platform X.
Initial investigations have indicated that the suspects had previously escaped to Nepal following a murder. They allegedly returned to India under the instructions of foreign-based handlers to execute a "sensational crime" in Punjab. Both individuals reportedly have a substantial criminal background, with more than 15 cases across Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, involving various criminal Acts.
Additionally, they are believed to be involved in the murder of Bharat Ratan, also known as Vicky, in Fazilka. This information was confirmed by the Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav.
