Kollam, Kerala – September 4 (PTI): In a tragic incident, three members of the same family, including two children, lost their lives when their sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided head-on with a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus in Ochira, a locality in this southern district.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on a stretch of the National Highway at Valiyakulangara, Ochira. The family was reportedly on their way back home after seeing off a relative at Kochi airport. It was at this point that their vehicle collided with a KSRTC bus traveling from Kollam to Cherthala.

The deceased have been identified as Prince Thomas and his children, Athul and Alka, all of whom were residents of Pipe Junction, Thevalkara in Kollam.

Three individuals are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Their condition is reported to be critical.

The collision left both the SUV and the bus severely damaged. Local residents quickly intervened, managing to cut open the doors of the SUV and rush the injured to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Prince and his children succumbed to their injuries.

Initial reports from the Ochira police, based on CCTV footage from nearby establishments, suggest that Prince may have dozed off at the wheel and that the SUV was speeding at the time of the accident.

However, police officials have stated that the exact cause of the accident will only be determined after a thorough investigation.
