Kolkata, Jul 4 (PTI) In a significant move, Kolkata Police investigators took four men involved in the alleged gang rape of a student to South Calcutta Law College to reconstruct the crime scene, as confirmed by an officer. The operation began at around 4 a.m. on Friday, involving the main suspects: alumnus and staff member Monojit Mishra, students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee. The reconstruction, which took over four hours to complete, was a crucial part of the investigation process.
"Reconstructing the crime scene is essential for our investigation," the officer told PTI. Following the reconstruction, the group was escorted back to the police station. "We will confirm our findings with the victim’s allegations and other evidence," the officer further explained.
The tragic incident reportedly took place on the evening of June 25 when Mishra, aided by two seniors, attacked the 24-year-old woman over a period exceeding three hours across different campus locations, including the guard's room, as per her police complaint. The Kolkata Police Detective Department is diligently investigating the case. The four accused were taken through various locations during the reconstruction, including the union room, washroom, and guard’s room in the Kasba area of the city.
"During the enactment, the accused were asked to demonstrate their actions as they happened on June 25," revealed the officer present at the scene. Senior officers recorded all necessary details during the process. Additionally, the Detective Department personnel created a 3D mapping of the institution, which provides a precise recreation of the crime spot, enhancing the overall investigation.
The security guard will be presented in court later as his police remand concludes on July 4. The victim’s medical examination and circumstantial evidence reaffirmed her claim of being gang-raped, highlighting a grave lapse in the guard's duty.
