Thiruvananthapuram, July 16 (PTI) As heavy rains hit various regions of Kerala on Wednesday, the water levels in numerous rivers rose significantly. In response, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the day across five districts.
The districts placed under the orange alert include Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Additionally, the IMD has announced a yellow alert for the remaining nine districts in the state.
An orange alert indicates expectations of very heavy rain ranging between 11 cm to 20 cm. In contrast, a yellow alert forecasts heavy rainfall measuring between 6 cm to 11 cm.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Design and Research Board (IDRB) has raised alarms regarding the Uppala and Mogral rivers in Kasaragod district. Due to their rising water levels, residents along these riverbanks have been advised to remain cautious and vigilant.
