Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 5 (PTI) Kerala's Onam celebrations brought a substantial boost to liquor sales, with the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) reporting sales of Rs 826.38 crore from its BEVCO outlets during the festive season, according to officials.
The KSBC data revealed that from August 25 to September 4, representing the first 10 days of the Onam season, liquor sales jumped by 6.38 percent compared to the same festive period last year, when sales amounted to Rs 776.82 crore.
On the day of Uthradam, the eve of Onam, BEVCO outlets achieved sales of Rs 137.64 crore, an increase from Rs 126.01 crore the previous year, indicating a 9.23 percent growth in revenue.
The top-performing outlet on Uthradam day was the Karunagappally store, linked with the Kollam warehouse, which recorded sales of Rs 1.46 crore.
The Kavanad Ashramam outlet in Kollam followed, with Rs 1.24 crore in sales, and then the Kuttippala Edappal outlet in Malappuram with Rs 1.11 crore.
Other outlets exceeding the Rs 1-crore mark included Chalakudy (Rs 1.07 crore), Irinjalakuda (Rs 1.03 crore), and Kundara (Rs 1 crore).
Across the state, there are 278 BEVCO outlets and 155 self-service stores. Notably, BEVCO outlets remained closed on Friday, the main day of Onam.
The KSBC Onam sales season will wind up on Saturday. Last year's total sales during Onam reached Rs 842.07 crore. KSBC officials anticipate this year’s sales to surpass the 2024 figures.
