Kottayam (Kerala), Jul 3 (PTI) — Tragedy struck at the Government Medical College Hospital when a section of the building collapsed on Thursday, resulting in injuries to two individuals, according to official sources. The injured, who fortunately sustained non-critical injuries, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital's casualty department.

Following the incident, Health Minister Veena George and Cooperation Minister V N Vasavan promptly visited the site to assess the situation. Officials stated that the collapsed section was an unused toilet area located within a building that houses three wards. As a precautionary measure, approximately 100 patients were safely relocated to alternative areas.

The collapse occurred in the bathroom complex of a three-storey building. In response, police and fire services have initiated a thorough operation to check for any individuals possibly trapped under the debris.
