Kannur, Kerala, Aug 29 (PTI): In a tragic incident, police have initiated an investigation into the mysterious deaths of Sreelekha A K, aged 67, and her husband Premarajan P K, aged 76, who were found dead in their home in Chirakkal, north Kerala. The deceased were closely related to Kerala Forest Minister A K Saseendran. The couple, whose charred bodies were discovered on Thursday, reportedly lived alone, with their sons working abroad. The discovery was made around 6 p.m. when the couple's car driver arrived at their home to collect the vehicle for an airport pick-up, awaiting the arrival of one of their sons from overseas. Despite multiple attempts, there was no response from within the locked house, prompting the driver, along with relatives and neighbors, to forcibly enter the premises. Inside, they stumbled upon the horrifying scene.

Police investigations revealed head injuries on Sreelekha, along with a blood-stained hammer recovered from the scene, leading to suspicions of foul play. Authorities are considering the possibility of murder preceding the fire. Though neighbors last reported seeing the couple on Wednesday, police have found no evidence of forced entry into the residence. The Baliyapattam police have filed a case of unnatural death and have begun a thorough investigation. The definitive cause of death will be determined after the scheduled postmortem on Friday.
