Bengaluru, July 4 (PTI) — Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Friday that his administration sought a 10-day period from farmer representatives and organisations. This time is needed to clarify the government's position on the acquisition of fertile land by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) in Devanahalli for the establishment of an aerospace park. Citing legal challenges due to the final notification that has already been issued, Siddaramaiah stated that a meeting is scheduled for July 15 where the government's stance will be clarified.

The Chief Minister held discussions on Friday with representatives from the farming community. Farmers have been opposing the acquisition of over a thousand acres of land in 13 villages in Devanahalli taluk. "A number of organisations and protesters have gathered in Devanahalli taluk's Channarayapatna. I called them for a meeting today. As preliminary and final notifications have already been issued, there are some legal issues. Therefore, I have asked the protesters for ten days..." Siddaramaiah told reporters post-meeting. "July 15 has been scheduled for the next meeting, set for around 11 a.m. on that day," he added.

On Thursday evening, the Chief Minister held a meeting with Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, Law Minister H K Patil, Food Minister K H Muniyappa, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, and other top officials to deliberate on the issue.

According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Siddaramaiah explained to the farmers' representatives that there are legal implications concerning the "abandoning" of the land acquisition process in Channarayapatna hobli of Devanahalli taluk. Legal experts have provided advice to address these issues. Since the final notification was issued in April, it requires an assessment of its pros and cons. In this context, 10 days are necessary. The decision will be made accordingly, the CMO added.
