Guwahati, Jun 26 (PTI)—The sacred Kamakhya temple, perched atop Nilachal Hill, reopened its doors to pilgrims this Thursday, marking the conclusion of the four-day 'Ambubachi Mela,' according to officials. This annual event sees the temple shuttered, in observance of the symbolic menstrual cycle of Goddess Kamakhya.

The temple's doors were closed beginning Sunday. "All worship inside the temple was halted from 'prabritti,' and devotees were welcomed once more this morning following 'nibritti,'" stated an official.

This year's Ambubachi Mela at the famed Kamakhya temple started on June 22, amid robust security and well-organized arrangements, welcoming several lakh visitors, as confirmed by an official of the Kamrup Metropolitan district.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his thoughts on the occasion on X: "As the doors of Maa Kamakhya open to devotees in Nibritti, which marks the completion of the 4-day #Ambubachi Mahayog, I pray to Maa Kamakhya for the welfare of Bharat." He added, "May Maa Kamakhya bless everyone with abundance and steer the civilization forward. Jai Maa Kamakhya."

The Ambubachi Mela, a major tourist event within the state, sees celebrations throughout the temple premises during its duration.

Notably, no VIP or VVIP movements were allowed at the Kamakhya temple during the Mela, with a visitor ban in place from June 23.

To support devotees, a variety of camps were set up, and the state government coordinated with 24 departments to ensure a smoothly run event. Additionally, separate camps were arranged for police personnel.

Medical camps, complete with doctors and medicines, were established, and ample ferries were available for crossing the Brahmaputra River.

Besides police, the presence of volunteers, private security guards, and others ensured the Mela's smooth execution, officials confirmed.
