Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 3 (PTI) - A tragic incident has claimed the life of a 22-year-old state-level kabaddi player, Brijesh, from Farana village. He succumbed after reportedly not receiving the necessary anti-rabies vaccine following a dog bite, his family has revealed.

Two months ago, Brijesh was bitten by a puppy while rescuing it from a drain. Despite this event, it appears he did not perceive the bite as a serious threat, leading to a failure in seeking vaccination.

His condition worsened on June 28, and despite efforts to provide medical treatment, he did not survive. Brijesh was the youngest in his family, with two elder brothers.

His brother, Sandeep, expressed that Brijesh underestimated the risk, choosing not to get vaccinated. A private hospital in Aligarh later confirmed Brijesh had likely been bitten by a rabid animal, possibly a monkey or a dog.

At the time of the incident, Brijesh was training in the village for his kabaddi events. Following this unfortunate turn of events, officials from the health department ensured precautionary measures by administering anti-rabies vaccines to 29 residents of Farana village.
